What are the IP addresses for demo, contest and live accounts?

For MetaTrader 4:

When you connect to the MetaTrader 4 server for the first time, the list of available servers should load automatically. Choose your IP address from the list. If you need to enter your IP address manually the first time you log in to MetaTrader, your settings should save and the list of servers should load automatically the next time you log in. The servers should be listed by name ("Alpari-Demo", "Alpari-Contest","Alpari-Classic", "Alpari-NDD-Live", "Alpari-ECN-Live", "Alpari-Micro"), not shown as numerical IP addresses. If in the future your chosen server is unavailable, МТ4 will automatically connect to another server.

How do I trace an IP address?

Each time you log in to the system you will need enter your login and password and choose a server.

MetaTrader 4 users at Alpari use a number of different servers (see server list). Over the years, Alpari servers have proven to be extremely reliable and rarely crash.

If you are having problems connecting to the server, we recommend calling Alpari Customer Service at +7 (495) 710-76-76.

In some cases, it is possible to fix connectivity problems manually using network commands. If you have Windows on your computer, you can follow the steps below to troubleshoot your connectivity issues and determine the exact nature of the problem:

    • 1. Click "Start."
    • 2. Click "Run..."
    • 3. Type "cmd" and press the "Enter" key.
    • 4. You can then type a network command from below into the command prompt that appears.

    Network Commands:

Tracert sends a signal out and traces its path until the break in network communication is discovered. In the command prompt window, enter "tracert" (without quotes) followed by a single space and your IP server address (e.g. tracert 217.74.44.23 ) and press the "Enter" key. After entering this command, a table will appear showing the results. Each line in the table will show a different point in the route of the signal on the way to the destination server, starting with your gateway server.

Telnet allows you to find out if it is possible to connect to a remote server using network port 443. In the command prompt window, enter "telnet" (without quotes), followed by a space, followed by your IP server address, followed by "443" (without quotes). For example: "telnet 217.74.44.23 443". Press the "Enter" key. You will see either an empty screen with a blinking cursor or the following message: "Connecting 217.74.44.23...Unable to connect this host to the port 443: Connection failed".

Attention: When entering network commands, use the IP address you wish to check (list of server IP addresses).

If needed, you can report the results to our Technical Support by pasting them into any text document. To do this, right-click anywhere in the command prompt window, choose "Select all" and press the "Enter" key. Open any any text editor (Notepad, Wordpad, etc.) and press "Ctrl+V" to paste the selected text.

Important: Running these network commands from other servers or from other locations may keep you from solving yourt your network communication issues since the routes of data communication may be different.

Why do I see "No Connection" when I try to connect to MetaTrader 4?

    Here are some possible reasons:

    • 1. You have no internet connection.
    • 2. You use a proxy server or local network to connect to the internet and port 443 is blocked. If this is the case, you will need to ask your system administrator for the proxy server address and the port used to connect the internet. Enter this information into the MetaTrader settings. Go to the "Tools" menu and select "Options" / "Server." Check "Enable proxy server" and click "Proxy..." Enter the proxy server address and port, and your MetaTrader 4 login and password.

      Install Adobe Flash player

    • 3. Your computer's firewall program or antivirus software is blocking port 443. If this is the case, you will need to add MetaTrader to the list of safe programs (exceptions).
    • 4. You have an outdated version of MetaTrader. If this is the case, you will need to update the program. Find out which version of MetaTrader4 you have by selecting "About" from the "Help" menu.

    • Install Adobe Flash player

If you do have an outdated version of myAlpari, you can either try entering one of our current IP addresses (which can be found here) or downloading and installing the latest version of MetaTrader from our "MetaTrader Trading Platform" page.

Why do I keep seeing the "Invalid account" message in MetaTrader 4?

    Here are some possible reasons:

    • 1. The login you entered is not correct.

MetaTrader logins consist of numbers only and are given to clients following registration:

      • For live accounts: The login is shown in myAlpari immediately after opening an account and sent to a client's registered email address.
      • For demo accounts: The seven-digit login (i.e. 4920320) will appear in a pop-up window in the MetaTrader terminal. It will also be sent to your registered email and your MetaTrader Mailbox.
      • For "Virtual Reality" contest accounts: The seven-digit login (i.e. 2005568) will appear after completing contest registration. It will also be sent to your registered email address.

    • 2. The password you entered is not correct.

Your MetaTrader password must be at least five characters. It is case sensitive and may contain upper and lower case Latin letters and numbers. To avoid making any mistakes, you can simply copy and paste the password from the email you were sent following registration.

MetaTrader passwords are given to clients following registration:

      • For all live accounts: The password is shown in myAlpari immediately after opening an account and sent to a client's registered email address.
      • For demo.mt4 accounts: The password will appear in a pop-up window in the MetaTrader terminal. It will also be sent to your registered email and your MetaTrader Mailbox.
      • For "Virtual Reality" contest accounts: The password will appear when you complete registration for the contest. It will also be sent to your registered email address.

    • 3. You have chosen the wrong type of server (based on your account type).

To find out which server you need (based on your account type), please refer to this table.

    • 4. You downloaded MetaTrader from the MetaQuotes site or from the site of another broker.

If this is the case, you should download and install the latest version of MetaTrader from our site. When you download the program from us, the list of servers should load automatically. If the list of Alpari servers still isn't loading in MetaTrader automatically, you should try entering the server's IP address manually (find a list of our IP addresses here).

    •

      Install Adobe Flash player

    • 5. The account you entered no longer exists.
Live accounts will be deleted if they have not been activated within 30 days of being opened.
    • To activate a live account, you will need to make an initial deposit (learn more about minimum deposits in our trading conditions).

Important: Alpari reserves the right to activate a client's trading account regardless of their account balance.

Demo accounts will expire if you have not logged in for 21 days.

Why do I see the message "Trade context is busy" when I try to make a transaction?

The message "Trade context is busy" appears when your attempt to make a transaction is unsuccessful. This may happen, for example, when a client places a second order before receiving the results of the first one. The cause is commonly a temporary loss of connection to the server. When this happens, an order will be placed in a queue of client orders (to be executed) on the trading platform. While the order is in the queue, any attempt to make another transaction will be met with the message above.

To clear the queue, you can relaunch the terminal.

Why am I getting the "Trade is disabled" message when I try to place or change an order?

The most likely reason is that trading for the instrument you have chosen is closed. You can find a schedule for each of our trading instruments in our Contract Specifications.

If you have are trading a micro.mt4 or micro.mt4.swapfree account, these account types feature limits on your maximum order number and on your total trading volume. Please refer to our Trading with Alpari section for more.

If you attempt to open a position which would exceed either of these limits, the terminal will show you the "Trade is Disabled" error message. This message may also appear if you exceed the maximum number of total open positions and pending orders.

When the current price of an instrument reaches the order level for a pending order, the terminal will run a check on your total trading volume and your total number of open positions and pending orders. A pending order will be deleted from your queue if:

    • The volume of the pending order added to the total volume of your already open positions would exceed the limit on total volume.
    • The limit on total open positions and pending orders would be exceeded with the order.

What time is displayed in MetaTrader 4?

Time in MT4 is shown as Eastern European Time (EET). During Daylight-Saving Time, EET is 3 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT +3). During Standard (Winter) Time, EET is 2 hours ahead of GMT (GMT +2)

In Eastern Europe (EET), the transition to Daylight-Saving Time takes place the last Sunday in March at 01:00 GMT, moving the clock ahead an hour. The move back to Eastern European Standard Time takes place on the last Sunday in October at 1:00 GMT, moving the clock back an hour.

Why did I lose the information in my "Account History" in MetaTrader?

    Here are some possible reasons:

    1. You have not selected "All History."
Do this by right-clicking in the "Account History" tab of the "Terminal" window. Select "All History" from the menu.

    Install Adobe Flash player

    2. You have an outdated version of MetaTrader.
Go to the "Help" menu and select "About" to check what version of MetaTrader you have installed on your computer. To update to the latest version, download the trading platform from our site and install it over the old version.

    Install Adobe Flash player

    3. The system time on your computer is not correct.
This often happens after there is a power surge or if you don't properly shut down your computer. MetaTrader will only show data up to your current system time, so if your system clock is off, you probably won't be able to access your latest account information.

Why is the "New Order" button inactive?

There are two levels of access in MetaTrader: "Master" and "Investor." When you log in using the "Master" password, you will have complete access to the trading platform. When you log in as an "Investor," you will only be able to view your account information, analyze price data and work with expert advisors. You will not be able to place orders.

The most likely reason the "New Order" button is inactive is that you used your "Investor" password to log in to your account. To place an order you will need to log in using your "Master" password.

"Investor" passwords for demo accounts are generated automatically when an account is opened and sent (with your Master password) to your MetaTrader Mailbox (found in the "Terminal" window at the bottom of the screen in MT4).

"Investor" passwords for live accounts are created by the trading account holder.

How do I create or change my "Investor" password?

"Investor" passwords for demo accounts are generated automatically when an account is opened and sent (with the Master password) to your MetaTrader Mailbox (in the "Terminal" window at the bottom of the screen in MT4).

"Investor" passwords for live accounts are created by the trading account holder.

    Install Adobe Flash player

To create or change your "Investor" password:

    • 1. Go to the "Tools" menu in the upper toolbar and select "Options." In the "Server" tab, click "Change."
    • 2. Enter your "Master" password in the "Current password" field.
    • 3. Check the "Change investor (read only) password" box.

What is a trailing stop? Will it be triggered if I am offline?

    Install Adobe Flash player

A "Trailing Stop" applies a special algorithm to a Stop Loss order. When a Trailing Stop is placed, the level of the Stop Loss will react to price movements. For example, if you open a buy position, and the price of the instrument increases by a certain number of points, with a Trailing Stop, the level of the Stop Loss will increase as well. If you open a sell position and the price of the instrument falls, a Trailing Stop order will cause the level of the Stop Order to decrease as well. Generally speaking, a Trailing Stop causes the level of the Stop Order to trail the price level.

Let's say you place a Trailing Stop for X pips on an open position:

    • 1. No changes will be made to your order until the profit on your open position exceeds X pips.
    • 2. Once your position has exceeded X pips in profit, a Stop Loss order will be placed X pips from the current price (the breakeven point in this case).
    • 3. Each time the price exceeds a level X pips (of profit) from the current Stop Loss Order, an order will be sent out by the server to change the level of the current Stop Loss to be within X pips (the level of your Trailing Stop order) of the current price.

Note: A "Trailing Stop" order is managed by the client's trading platform, whereas Stop Loss and Take Profit orders are controlled by the server. Accordingly, a Trailing Stop order will only remain active when MetaTrader is running and connected to the internet. Once you close MetaTrader, your Trailing Stop order will become inactive, but your Stop Loss order will remain active, assuming it was placed earlier than the Trailing Stop.

Why did a bar/candle disappear from my chart?

This usually happens when you lose your internet connection. When this happens, you should try refreshing the chart by right-clicking on the chart and selecting "Refresh." This should load the missing data.

If the missing bars still do not show up on the chart:

    • 1. Close MetaTrader.
    • 2. Find the "History" folder in the MetaTrader program folder (C:/Program Files/MetaTrader/History).
    • 3. If a bar is missing on a classic.mt4 live account, go to the "Alpari-Classic" folder. If it is on a micro.mt4 live account, go to the "Alpari-Micro" folder. For demo accounts, go to the "Alpari-Demo" folder. For contest accounts, go to the "Alpari-Contest" folder.
    • 4. In the folder, delete any files which include the name of the instrument for which you are missing information (where the bar is missing). Delete the files in the folder which contain the name of the instrument in which the bar is missing.

How can I export my quote history as a .CSV file?

MetaTrader 4 allows traders to export their quote history in the CSV format. CSV (comma separated value) files are typically used to save large amounts of data in the form of a table. CSV files can be read by a variety of programs, including spreadsheet programs like Microsoft Excel. When exporting your quote history in the form of a CSV file, please keep in mind that the file may be large and require a significant amount of computing power to process.

    To export the quote history:

    • 1. Select "History Center" from the "Tools" menu in the upper toolbar of MetaTrader 4.
    • 2. Choose the trading instrument and the time frame you need in the dialog window.
    • 3. Click "Export."
    • 4. Choose a file name and select the .CSV format. Choose the destination and click "Save."

You will be able to open this file in different software programs, including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.

Note: When exporting your CSV file to Microsoft Excel, you may have problems viewing your data. MS Excel does not translate the commas in the file as separators, so the data may not appear in columns, as it should. By using the "Text in Column" feature in Excel, the program should interpret the CSV file correctly and display your information in separate columns.

I can't open a demo account, MetaTrader shows blank values for the password and login fields.

    Here are some possible reasons:

    1. Your network blocks port 443 and uses a proxy server to connect to the internet. If you connect to the internet through a network, this is most likely the cause of this problem.

    2. Your computer's firewall program or antivirus software is blocking port 443. If this is the case, you will need to add MetaTrader to the list of safe programs (exceptions).

I forgot the password for my demo account. What should I do if I forget the password to my demo account?

After you open a demo account with Alpari, your password is sent to your MetaTrader "Mailbox." Check here first to see if the message containing your password is still there. To view your mail, simply click on the "Mailbox" tab in the "Terminal" window of MetaTrader. If you can't find the "Terminal" window, press CTRL+T to show/hide the window.

Your MetaTrader 4 demo account will not expire, as long as you log in at least once every 21 days. If your account expires, you can always open a new one.
